Article Summary
The Replication Challenge is a Bulgarian training program designed to empower young entrepreneurs by giving them access to a portfolio of over 40 successful international business ideas. Organized by Startup Factory Ruse and backed by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the program will run from October 6–8, 2023, near Plovdiv.
The core concept of the event is to encourage replication over invention. Instead of asking young people to create brand-new ideas, the challenge offers a curated list of tested, scalable business models in areas such as environmental sustainability, healthcare, education, resource management, sustainable agriculture, eco-friendly housing, and slow tourism. Each concept has been successfully implemented in another country and is now ready to be adapted to Bulgaria’s regional contexts.
Participants will be guided on how to localize these models, ensuring they align with specific community needs and conditions. The training is tailored for individuals aged 18 to 35 who are eager to make an impact but may not yet have a business idea. By removing the early barriers of ideation and validation, the program accelerates their entrepreneurial journey in a more cost-effective, efficient way.
The initiative is funded and supported by multiple public and private actors, including the Embassy of France in Bulgaria, the French NGO Snowball Effect, and ecosystem partners like La French Tech Sofia, WWF Bulgaria, America for Bulgaria Foundation, and Sodexo Bulgaria (Pluxee).
The deadline for applications is September 30, 2023. The project seeks to popularize social entrepreneurship as a force for good and provide tools that help young Bulgarians solve real-world challenges while building sustainable businesses.
Key Highlights

Takeaway
The Replication Challenge is a powerful model for democratizing entrepreneurship. By removing the need for an original business idea, it allows more young people to take action toward solving social and environmental issues in their own communities. It also showcases how international collaboration can fuel local innovation — bringing tested global ideas to where they’re needed most. As Bulgaria looks to foster inclusive growth and empower its next generation, initiatives like this play a crucial role in bridging the gap between global knowledge and local impact.
