French Tech Mission

French Tech Sofia exists to serve the ecosystem as a trusted bridge between people, ideas, and opportunities.

The French Tech Mission is a public administration that implements support programs for French start-ups and leads a network of structures to boost the French tech ecosystem in all territories. It is made up of a national team and a French Tech network to implement all its actions..

What is the French Tech Mission?

The French Tech Mission was created in 2013 to support the structuring and growth of the French start-up ecosystem, in France and internationally. It is responsible for deploying public policies for start-ups and federating this ecosystem on the national territory and also internationally.

A mission within the State

In 2013, the mission was to create a start-up ecosystem in France. Today, it has been achieved! Since 2019, France has maintained its first European position for welcoming foreign investment, according to the EY study in 2024.

The ambition today is to make France one of the most attractive countries in the world for start-ups, talents and investors. To achieve this goal, the priorities aim to:

  • Support the development of world-class technology companies capable of providing solutions to major societal challenges
  • Improve the dissemination of French Tech solutions across the entire French economic fabric to strengthen our technological sovereignty
  • Accelerate the opening of the ecosystem to all talents and all territories in order to make French Tech a driver of professional and economic integration for all
  • Position French Tech as the leading European ecosystem in terms of ecological transition

Support programs dedicated to the growth of innovative technology start-ups

Convinced that collaboration between the public and private sectors creates value, our action is based on the design and implementation of innovative support programs for French entrepreneurs.

These programs are aimed at both high-performing start-ups, capable of becoming world-class technological champions, and those that are less mature but have strong potential and are positioned on strategic subjects within the framework of France 2030, but also at entrepreneurs who are under-represented in the ecosystem and who wish to create their start-up.

Through these support programs, we ensure:

  • Provide solutions for start-ups on issues of visibility, regulation and access to public services;
  • Facilitate interactions with French administrations thanks to the network of 60 French Tech Correspondents, present in public administrations, and their expertise covering vast subjects ranging from financing to recruitment, from international openness.

The difference between “the French Tech Mission” and “the French Tech”

The French Tech Mission is a government agency that deploys the “La French Tech” brand, owned by the French government. It is responsible for supporting and mobilising the French start-up ecosystem, both in France and internationally.

“French Tech” is the term used to designate the movement of 25,000 French start-ups operating in France and abroad. It is often used to refer to start-ups and all the players in the ecosystem: investors, support structures (incubators, accelerators, dedicated associations, etc.), etc.
