A new cycle begins for French Tech Sofia, 2026–2028
French Tech Sofia has been renewed as part of the French Tech Capitals and Communities network for the 2026–2028 cycle.
We are, of course, very happy to share the news with you. It is an important moment for the community, and also a good moment to look back at what has been built so far. And share what's next!
Over the past year, French Tech Sofia has started taking a new shape. We launched a new website, continued our monthly afterwork events, welcomed more people into the community, and hosted our first flagship event.
We also saw the community grow online, with more than 1,000 new followers joining us on LinkedIn, where we try to keep our communication regular, useful, and close to the ecosystem.
It may sound like a small list, but for a volunteer-led community, it matters. Every event, every conversation, every introduction, every post, and every company profile helps make the ecosystem a little more visible and a little easier to join.
And that is probably the point.
Sofia already has many founders, operators, investors, companies, institutions, communities, and initiatives doing great work. Comes to mind immediately BESCO, The Recursive, BVCA, Puzl CowOrKing, and many others!
At French Tech Sofia, our role isn’t to replace any of that. It’s to help connect some of the dots, especially between Bulgaria, France, and the wider European tech network.

A renewed label, and a lot still to build
The 2026-2028 renewal is a recognition of what has been done, but it’s also a starting point.
French Tech Sofia exists to support people and companies building across borders. For us, that means creating more visibility for local companies, helping founders and operators meet the right people, supporting stronger links between institutions and entrepreneurs, and telling more of the stories that shape Sofia’s tech ecosystem.
There is still a lot to do.
We want the French Tech Sofia website to become a better entry point into the local ecosystem. We want to keep growing regular community moments, from afterworks to larger events. We want to highlight more companies, more founders, more partnerships, and more useful opportunities.
Not everything will be perfect from day one. But the direction is clear. The stories are there. The hidden gems are there too.
Our job is to help make the France-Bulgaria tech bridge more visible, more connected, and more useful.
Why Sofia matters in the global landscape
Sofia is a very interesting place to build from.
It has engineering talent, entrepreneurial energy, founders with global ambitions, growing startup activity, and a practical mindset that many people only discover when they spend time here.
For French companies, founders, investors, and institutions, Bulgaria can be a strong bridge into Southeast Europe and a real innovation market in its own right.
For Bulgarian startups and tech companies, France and the French Tech network can open doors to one of Europe’s most active technology ecosystems, with opportunities for visibility, partnerships, funding, and international growth.
French Tech Sofia sits somewhere in the middle of that.
Not as the only bridge, of course. But as one bridge we can keep building, with the community.

What comes next?
The renewed label isn’t just a logo.
It gives us a new three-year cycle to do more useful work for the ecosystem.
In this new cycle, French Tech Sofia will focus on:
- Making the ecosystem easier to discover, through company profiles, media coverage, founder stories, and startup news.
- Keeping the community active, with continued afterworks and larger moments during the year.
- Creating more France-Bulgaria connections, for founders, companies, investors, institutions, and partners.
- Working with ecosystem partners, because the best initiatives are rarely built alone.
- Putting Sofia in more European tech conversations, where we believe the local ecosystem deserves to be seen more often.
The goal is simple: make French Tech Sofia more useful to the people who are already building here, and more visible to the people who should discover what is happening in our city.
